The Institute for the Study of Human Knowledge is offering a selection of Spanish and bilingual editions of Hoopoe Books titles to public and school libraries, free of charge, thanks to a grant from the Will J. Reid Foundation. Libraries should cover the shipping expenses. Approximate 1,000 books will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. These are Spanish language beautiful editions of the original titles written by Idries Shah. In her translations Rita Wirkala shows a high command of the Spanish language. The translations are appropriate and correct. These translations also convey Idries Shah message, capturing his storytelling voice, his style, as well as the wisdom and universal values from the Sufi tradition that the original stories encompass. The stories entertain but also teach children tolerance and understanding of different cultures. Each of these tales deals with a specific topic. Children will not only enjoy the stories, but they will also learn that there are different ways to resolve a conflict, to overcome fears, to find solutions, and to be alert to the dangers of being so naive. The gorgeous illustrations set each story apart; personalizing and enhancing them. These books are great additions to any Spanish collection.
