Spanish Story Time at the Fairview Branch Library, Santa Monica PDF Print E-mail

I had the pleasure of observing a Spanish story time at the Fairview branch of the Santa Monica Public Library on Tuesday morning, April 6th, led by children’s and Latino outreach librarians, Sylvia Anderle. This story time has been ongoing for over 20 years now, and is the longest continuously running Spanish-language story time in the greater Los Angeles area. It is offered every Tuesday morning in 6 week cycles, with 2 week breaks in between cycles, the same as other story times in this system. The Fairview branch is located in the Pico Union neighborhood of Santa Monica, a neighborhood with a large Latino population, but attendees come from all over the Santa Monica area for Sylvia's story time.

I just created this song and rhyme flyer for our Spanish-language story time at the Fairview Branch of the Santa Monica Public Library, and I thought I would share it. Unfortunately, I created it in Adobe In-Design and was only able to export it in non-writeable form as a pdf, however you can at least use it as a guide and/or a resource for songs and rhymes.

I'm also attaching sound files of our latino outreach and children's librarian singing some of the songs, for reference. "Chocolate", "Juanito cuando baila", "Tia Monica", and "Los Elefantes" are from Jose Luis Orozco, and can be found on his cds, available here.

Enjoy!

This presentation was offered by REFORMA Arizona on offering services to Spanish speakers. To view the slides, simply click on the gallery image. The first half of the presentation was narrated by Ghada Elturk, from Colorado. She includes some beautiful slides, but it is harder to get an idea of what she is talking about without the audio. The second half was presented by Miriam Rodriguez of Dallas Texas, and includes slides with some wonderful ideas for outreach, advertising, programs, and further resources. For the full webinar presentation, visit the archive here: https://sas.elluminate.com/p. jnlp?psid=2009-12-03.0830.D. 24FCB2C91ED5726BB6D3841436AEF0 .vcr

I apologize for the non-functioning links. To post the slides here I had to convert them to jpegs. I've posted all of the links on the Web Links page.
